Jeremy M. Davis published The Faces of Bipolar on August 17, 2026. The book describes what living with bipolar disorder feels like from the inside, rather than from clinical observation. It offers a framework for readers to identify and name the various personas that bipolar can present itself with, and strategies on how to cope with those personas when they arrive. BlueInk Review designated it a “Notable Book.”
Davis wrote the book because most of what he read about bipolar disorder described it from the outside. “Most books I’ve read describe bipolar from outside observation,” he said. “While helpful, this does not describe how it feels to live with the disorder.” That gap led him to develop what he calls an inside out approach, one that complements the outside in approach taken by most clinical writing on the topic.
The center of that approach is the persona framework. Readers learn to identify and build their own cast of personas, giving them a way to describe their disorder and separate their symptoms from their definition of self. A companion workbook, available for purchase separately from the book, guides readers through that process. Davis said the framework helps readers tell the difference between who they are and what bipolar brings with it.
The Faces of Bipolar is written for people with bipolar disorder, for their loved ones, and for therapists who treat clients with bipolar. The book is available through resources for living with bipolar disorder, and the companion workbook is available for purchase in addition to the book. Davis said the disorder can make people feel as though their life is populated by characters they did not choose. “You didn’t choose this cast of characters,” he writes. “But you are still the author.”
Davis also offered a shorter statement about the experience of managing the disorder. “I win more than I lose,” he said. That line runs through the book’s approach: the personas are real and recurring, but they are not the whole story. The workbook gives readers a place to record how each persona shows up, what it says, and what strategies help when it arrives.
The book is published out of Apex, North Carolina. It does not present bipolar disorder as a single fixed experience. Instead, it treats the disorder as a set of recurring patterns that can be named, tracked, and addressed. The companion workbook is designed to be used alongside the main text, with exercises that help readers identify their own personas and build the language to describe them.
Davis said the distinction between symptoms and self is central to the framework. A person with bipolar disorder may cycle through states that feel like different versions of themselves. Naming those states as personas allows a reader to observe them rather than become them. The workbook turns that idea into a practice, with prompts that readers return to over time as they learn their own patterns.
The book and workbook are designed to be used together, with the workbook sold separately. The main text lays out the framework and the strategies for coping with personas when they arrive. The workbook provides the structure for readers to apply that framework to their own lives. Therapists who treat clients with bipolar can use the pair as a tool in sessions, while loved ones can use it to understand what the person they care for is describing.
The Faces of Bipolar was published on August 17, 2026, and received the Notable Book designation from BlueInk Review. Davis is the author.
New Book The Faces of Bipolar by Jeremy M. Davis Offers Unique Insights into Living with Bipolar Disorder
A raw, firsthand account that details a persona-based framework that can be used as new language to describe bipolar disorder from the inside out.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
APEX, NC, UNITED STATES, August 19, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Apex Publishing is pleased to announce the release of The Faces of Bipolar: The Personas Bipolar May Speak Through and What They Feel Like from the Inside, a groundbreaking book by author Jeremy M. Davis. This book offers a unique perspective on living with bipolar disorder, using a persona-based framework to describe the experience from the inside out. The Faces of Bipolar is now available for purchase on Amazon in Kindle edition with hardcover and paperback editions to follow within 7-10 days.
Bipolar disorder affects approximately 5.7 million adults in the United States alone, according to the National Institute of Mental Health. Despite its prevalence, there is still a lack of understanding and awareness surrounding this mental health condition, particularly in terms of how it feels to live with the disorder. The Faces of Bipolar aims to change that by providing a personal and relatable account of what it feels like to live with bipolar disorder vs. the more typical outside-in clinical descriptions of many books.
“The persona-framework provides new language to describe the lived experience of bipolar disorder,” Davis says. “By naming the voice(s) responsible for a destructive thought or action, you start to separate who you are from what the illness does. That distinction matters both for the person living with bipolar, and for the people who love them.”
Drawing on his own history with bipolar disorder II, Davis walks readers through personas like the Antagonist, the Liar, the Critic, and the Grandiose Champion, each shaped by real memories and real fears, each carrying its own damage. Every chapter closes with two grounded sections, “What Your Clinician Sees” and “What You Can Do When This Face Appears,” pairing the personal account with practical, clinically informed guidance.
Diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2012, Davis wrote the book not from a place of resolved recovery but from the middle of an ongoing one including a 2026 mixed-state episode that nearly cost him his marriage and led to a nearly successful suicide attempt. “I win more often than I lose,” he says. “That’s not a tagline. That’s the actual math of this illness, and I wanted people to have an honest account of what that math looks like.”
The Faces of Bipolar is Davis’s first book.
